19-Year-Old Shalayne Alexandria, Author of Teen / Young Adult Fiction Series Nyville High, Uses Interactive Online Community, Video Trailers, Free Cell Phone Books to Create and Maintain Relationship with Readers. Author's third book in the Nyville High series, Nyville High No. 3: True Lies will be featured under the New Title Showcase at BookExpo America 2008
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 21, 2008 -- Many teens do not like to be challenged by their parents to do anything. But one teen took her mother's challenge to use her love of reading to write her own novel to heart. As a result, 19-year-old author Shalayne Alexandria has now created a book series, launched an interactive website and uses mobile technology to deliver free ebooks every week to her readers.
Bypassing traditional publishing routes, Shalayne
convinced her mother to publish her first book and
ultimately the series after writing and releasing
Nyville High No. 1: Welcome to Nyville as an ebook. "She
followed her passions and has replaced her allowance by
doing so," says her mother and publisher, Ronda of 5
Muses Publishing. "I'm proud of my daughter and happy
for her."
"I created the Nyville High book series to entertain
teen readers with characters they love, characters they
loathe and characters they love to loathe. I created the
Nyville
High website because I wanted to enhance the
readers' experience beyond the Nyville High books. It
was important to me as an author to connect and maintain
a fresh relationship with every Nyville High reader,"
says Shalayne.
The Nyville High online community invites visiting fans to explore the fictional online world of Nyville High School in an interactive, digital format with 'classes' offering free Nyville High specific horoscopes, cell phone wallpaper, music videos, and more. Readers who attend NyvilleHigh.com as an 'e-student' can also go to the 'journalism class' and subscribe to receive a free weekly 2 Minute Book on their cell phones every Monday.
The 2 Minute Book is currently in beta. The feature is essentially a mobile widget for the fictional Nyville High blog, at least for the author's need. According to Shalayne, the 2 Minute Book is fun for the readers because they can read it on their cell phones when they are on the go. It loosely follows the paperback series, expounding on other characters and plots within Nyville High.
Shalayne also created a video trailer for Nyville High No. 3: True Lies, the latest novel in the Nyville High series. "As an author, the book video trailer is a fun, visual way for me to introduce the characters to readers. It's like being sent on a Book 3 digital book tour everywhere in the world without the expense and airport delays."
The mother-daughter, publisher-author team will debut nationally at BookExpo America in Los Angeles, CA, May 29-June 1, 2008. Shalayne's third book in the Nyville High series, Nyville High No. 3: True Lies will be featured under the New Title Showcase. Shalayne will also participate in autographing sessions daily throughout the event in booth #5654.
BookExpo America is the largest publishing event in the United States and the second largest publishing event in the world, typically attracting 25000-35,000 people.
